WRP - Federal careers for UMD students with disabilities

Dear University of Maryland Terp,

I am contacting you to let you know that the registration portal to officially sign up to participate in the Workforce Recruitment Program is now open!

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a referral and recruitment program that identifies students with disabilities who are interested in employment with the federal government. The WRP is one of the main paths to:
  • Find an internship or permanent position at federal agencies
  • Explore careers in the federal service
  • Gain interviewing experience

The WRP connects college students and recent graduates with disabilities to employers across the nation for summer internships and full-time jobs. Check out www.wrp.gov to learn more.

To qualify, an eligible candidate:
  • Must have an intellectual disability, severe physical disability, or psychiatric disability which makes the candidate eligible to use the Schedule A hiring authority (see explanation in the Student Resource section - Schedule A Checklist for Candidates)
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be a current, full-time, degree-seeking, post-secondary student, unless they are taking a reduced course load due to a disability OR are in their final semester.

Individuals who met the preceding requirements while enrolled, but have graduated within one year of the release of the database each December, are also eligible. For the 2015 WRP release, interviews will be held in the fall of 2014. Candidates who graduated prior to October, 2013, are NOT eligible to participate this year.

Candidates who are accepted into WRP will have the opportunity to be interviewed for federal and private sector positions. A recruiter will be assigned to the University of Maryland to conduct phone interviews with qualified candidates. Participation is open to any student with disabilities at all academic levels and majors, and degree programs. Veterans with disabilities are especially urged to apply.

Let me know of your interest as soon as possible by registering to participate!  To register, go to https://wrp.gov/registerstudent and follow the Student Self Registration Instructions.  Student registration is a two-part process. When you click the submit button, your registration will be forwarded to me as the University of Maryland Campus Coordinator for approval. After your account has been reviewed and approved by me, you will receive an email with further instructions.  Please note that I must approve your online registration before you can complete the second part of the online application, the portion that includes all of your required documents.  Space is limited. Although WRP registration closes on Wednesday, October 8, plan to complete your registration process as soon as possible. Do not wait until the last minute. If your online application (including all required documents) is not complete by this deadline, you will not be eligible to participate in the WRP.  To be considered for interviews, the following items need to be obtained and/or completed by you and submitted by this deadline:
  • Resume (Required)
  • College Transcript- official or unofficial (Required)
  • Schedule A Letter (Required)
  • Any additional supporting documents (Optional)

Given that you want to submit a completive Federal Resume and present your qualification persuasively and confidently during your WRP phone interview, I would encourage you to take advantage of the many services and resources the University Career Center & The President’s Promise offers students. We are located at 3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing or visit us at www.careers.umd.edu for helpful information.  To schedule an individual appointment with one of our Career Counselors, call 301.314.7225, and let us know if you need an accommodation.

I am optimistic you will want to participate in the Workforce Recruitment Program, and look forward to receiving notification of your registration. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thanks.

Becky
