Humanitarian Assistance Associate Position for Recent Grad in Silver Spring

Global Communities is seeking a Humanitarian Assistance Associate to join its office of Humanitarian Assistance at the Headquarters in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland.
The OHA Associate provides administrative and program development support to the Humanitarian Assistance Office; assists with coordinating the organization’s response to humanitarian crises; and helps to develop organizational capacity to respond to emergencies.
Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical and administrative support to the unit.
    • Provides administrative support to the Office of Humanitarian Assistance (OHA) (updating Sales Force database, managing onboarding of and payment to consultants, travel arrangements, managing OHA documents and files, etc.).
    • Supports the recruitment process for program-funded positions in the field
    • Supports technical writers and reviewers on relevant program development initiatives.
    • Assists with the development and implementation of relevant training and capacity building in emergency response.
    • Develops standard program development templates and tools, emergency needs assessment tools, and emergency response tools.
    • Assists with the evaluations of humanitarian programs.
  • Acts as an emergency information/reports officer or program officer in the field during major emergency response.
  • Identifies and pursues new humanitarian program development opportunities.
  • Represents organization at relevant coordination mechanisms. Establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with other humanitarian assistance actors, including donors. Represents at InterAction working groups, USAID meetings, DOS briefings.
  • Plays an active role in the development of the organization’s humanitarian assistance strategy.
  • Undertakes all other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of international development programming, project development, and grants administration. Basic knowledge of emergency livelihoods, shelter or disaster risk reduction programming.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in a relevant second language, preferably Arabic or Spanish would be an asset.
  • Able to work under general supervision, handling and completing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to mobilize to difficult locations and situations on short notice. Willingness to travel approximately 25% of time depending on office needs.
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, excel, and database maintenance.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail required in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents and ability to sit at a computer and operate a keyboard.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline and 0-2 years of experience.
  • One year experience working in an international non-profit or similar development or humanitarian organization preferred.
  • Experience in USG and UN-funded programs preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
