Spring Government Affairs Intern - Attention CCJS Majors!



The National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) is currently seeking a part-time Government Affairs Intern for Spring 2017 with a strong interest or previous experience in criminal justice and homeland security policy issues to assist the activities of the Government Affairs Division.

A student in his/her junior or senior year or in a graduate program is preferred, but not required, as the position requires significant legislative research and analysis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in pursuing a career in public policy or lobbying to obtain firsthand experience and make connections with leading organizations in Washington. The internship will also provide the individual with the opportunity to attend the 2017 Winter Conference in Washington, DC, and to assist in preparations for the 2017 Annual Conference in Reno, NV. The internship will provide the individual with the opportunity to manage specific issues within the Government Affairs portfolio on a range of criminal justice and homeland security issues.

INTERN DUTIES
-Attend congressional hearings and committee markups and provide written reports for the Department’s electronic newsletter
-Provide research and analysis on bills relevant to sheriffs and the larger criminal justice field
-Attend coalition meetings, forums, seminars, and panels
-Draft legislative correspondence and articles for Association publications
-Assist in preparation for Association conferences, meetings, etc.
