GIS Summer Internship – Baltimore City Health Department


Health and place and inherently linked. The Baltimore City Health Department seeks an intern to work on one of the following projects involving spatial analysis and health in Baltimore City: 1) the Urban Heat Island, 2) Land Use and Crime, 3) Shooting Patterns, 4) Repeat Service Calls (911, 311), or 5) Asset Mapping. They will give a presentation and prepare a short report for internal or external use summarizing their findings. This internship will last for 3 months and the hours per week will depend upon the intern and the project chosen. This is an unpaid position, but is a perfect opportunity for a student seeking graduation credit, volunteer hours, or practicum requirements.

Candidate Requirements
-The ability to create basic maps and use statistics

Candidate Desirables

-The ideal candidate would have, or be pursuing, a degree in Public Health or Geography
-Experience with ArcGIS or QGIS and at least one statistical package (R, Stata, SPSS, SAS, etc.) or Microsoft Excel
