Paid Summer Internship – Community Law in Action


CLIA’s Summer Leaders Program Assistant is responsible for assisting and coordinating with CLIA staff to implement the Summer Leaders Program. S/he will help prepare summer materials, weigh in on programming decisions, lead some of the activities as needed, and assist youth in their brainstorming, thoughtful editing and final planning stages of their youth advocacy projects. S/he will also help gather daily accountability, reflection and assessment data as needed.

Major Responsibilities
·      Assist with CLIA’s Summer Leaders Program for rising high school juniors and seniors in Baltimore City.
·      Help collect and distribute student materials at the beginning and conclusion of the day.
·      Gather, sort, and organize student information for program
·      Communicate respectfully with students and CLIA staff. 
·      Provide academic, media, and leadership support to student leaders as needed, especially to help them complete their group’s advocacy project.
·      Assist staff with feedback.   
·      Guide “Student Leader of the Day”  as needed during their assigned day.
·      Work with CLIA staff  to contact and coordinate meetings with city organizations as needed.
·      Assist with photography and video to capture student comments for CLIA’s communications team to use as needed.
·      Maintain a positive attitude and respect for all (youth, staff, public, guests), especially when voicing disagreement about an issue.

Qualifications
·      Current undergraduate student, either junior or senior classification.
·      Experience with advocacy, creating messaging, and social justice work is preferred.
·      Experience working in dynamic ways with youth-led projects.
·      Previous experience with urban, public school students is preferred(i.e., camp counselor, school volunteer with interactive programming with youth, etc.). 
·      Interest/experience leading youth-focused workshop.
·      Positive attitude and respect when working with urban teenagers.
·      Responsible with time management and follow through on tasks.
·      Experience with Google Suite or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is preferred.

Hours and Compensation
·      7 weeks (June 19th - August 3rd )
·      6 hours/day (9:30am - 3:30pm),  Monday through Friday
·      Stipend totaling $2,500.
·      Paid bi-weekly (every two weeks).
