Wildlife Crime Technology Project Internship
|
World Wildlife Fund (WWF), seeks a Wildlife Crime
Technology Project Intern.
Responsibilities:
Internship Description:
Global wildlife crime not only threatens wild species, but also damages ecosystems and threatens local livelihoods and regional security. WWF’s Wildlife Crime Technology Project is committed to combating this crisis, and is researching innovative technology tools to support field-based anti-poaching and wildlife monitoring work. Our project seeks a motivated intern for desktop research on emerging technology tools for wildlife and habitat monitoring and anti-poaching. Focus will be placed on maintaining and growing an online community for information sharing among WWF Network scientists, and research and report writing. Internship responsibilities may include weekly news and literature digest compilation, information and database management (including using Google Fusion Tables); support for the administration of an online Google Group and community (including drafting, editing and posting discussion topics, uploading new content and structuring information); moderating discussions/forums; and synthesizing weekly digests and relevant science news items. Minimum Requirements: A successful candidate will be a junior or senior in college, or a graduate student; have strong research, writing, and communication skills; database experience; knowledge of social networking and online community management; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Background in web design, engineering, conservation, and international experience preferred. This internship is an excellent opportunity to engage with conservation practitioners; learn about WWF and its projects; and explore and communicate on innovative technology tools to fight wildlife crime. Internship Opportunity - Juvenile Justice
AIR is a
leading non-profit organizations with over 1600 staff dedicated to our
mission of conducting and applying the best behavioral and social science
research to improve people’s lives, especially the disadvantaged. We
are currently offering an unpaid (academic credit) undergraduate/graduate
internship opportunity to support innovative and nationally significant
research and evaluation studies in the fields of juvenile justice, adult
criminal justice, and evidence-based intervention and prevention programming.
The chosen Intern will work with a team of experienced justice researchers on
a variety of projects that best meet the needs of each study and the
interests and skills of the intern. The internship will last approximately 14 weeks during which time the student will work in the AIR Washington, DC (Georgetown) office. Hours will depend of the student's internship program requirement, but it is expected that the internship will demand 15-20 hours per week. Responsibilities:
Opportunities
for the selected intern may include:
• Conducting literature reviews • Managing multi-site research databases • Collecting, analyzing data and reporting data using a variety of means to include peer-reviewed publications. • Involvement in document reviews, focus groups, interviews, and observational studies The selected intern(s) may also have the opportunity to work with data from the US Census, surveys and community crime data from the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) and local data from individual courts and communities. Studies include national research using randomized-controlled designs, state-level studies using time-series and regression discontinuity designs as well as qualitative and mixed-methods studies
Qualifications:
• Enrolled in
an undergraduate or graduate program with criminal justice coursework and be
interested in pursuing a justice research career.
