General requirements
Applicants for all internships must:
  • Have a good academic record.
  • Demonstrate an interest in the subject matter.
  • Be able to complete their internship work hours on site at START.
  • Agree to attend orientation and training.

Helping Skills Without a PhD

Paid Legislative Research Internship

Full-Time Security Officer Position


Recent college graduates looking for a part-time opportunity! A highly recognized law firm is seeking two part-time security officers for their building in Washington, DC. The first shift is: Saturday & Sunday7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and the second shift is: Saturday & Sunday3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring staff, employee, clients, and property are protected; conducting safety and security patrols; providing escorts for parking facilities and metro stops for Covington and Burling employees working after-hours; responding to medical emergencies; maintaining daily security log; issuing visitor passes; and performing other duties as assigned. The candidate will also be required to receive their SPO license within a certain time period of working with the firm and must obtain a CPR certification within one year of employment.

The firm is seeking candidates who are trainable, interested and professional. The applicants must have computer skills and a working knowledge of MS Office. Individuals who have an eye towards going into the criminal justice field – i.e. corrections, or becoming a police officer will be ideal for this position. This part-time position will have paid vacation time.

Position with National Association of Attorneys General


NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ATTORNEYS GENERAL 
NAGTRI PROGRAM SPECIALIST 


The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) was founded in 1907 to help Attorneys General fulfill the responsibilities of their office and to assist in the delivery of high quality legal services to the states and territorial jurisdictions.

The National Attorneys General Training & Research Institute (NAGTRI) was created in 2007 to serve out NAAG’s mission of education, research and training to Attorneys General and their staff by providing scholarship and fee-based training courses, as well as publications on pertinent topics.

Position 
The NAGTRI Program Specialist supports the work of NAAG and NAGTRI by assisting the NAGTRI Chief Administrator and NAAG/NAGTRI attorneys.

As NAGTRI Program Specialist, duties entail assisting with training/meeting/seminar coordination, including travel and meeting logistics, monitoring budgets, CLE coordination, administrative support as needed and conducting research.

The Program Specialist should have excellent computer skills, be able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, exhibit an outgoing personality, think independently, have a strong grasp of budgeting and finance, and exercise tact and diplomacy. The Program Specialist should have the ability to work effectively in a team environment, fostering collaboration and cooperation across departments. Travel accounts for approximately 40% of this position. The Program Specialist reports directly to the NAGTRI Chief Administrator.

Core Duties 
• Pre-training support for attendees to include preparing training announcement, registration management, travel support, per diem check requests etc…
• Pre-training support/logistics to include maintaining hotel rooming list, coordinating meeting room setup, food and beverage, audio visual for presenters, off-site events, transportation logistics, preparing materials, name badges, attendance list, gifts etc…
• Serve as onsite contact at NAGTRI courses, responsibilities including registration support, ensuring food and beverage, audio visual and meeting room setup accuracy and maintaining a professional and courteous relationship with hotel staff and training attendees.
• Follow training close-out procedures to include facilitating program evaluations, ensuring all final invoices are accurate, approved and paid in a timely fashion, finalizing speaker/faculty reimbursements, etc…
• Provide administrative support - proofread correspondence, reports, agendas; prepare both drafts and finals.
• Support the online travel service, setting up travel accounts, adding new meetings, and general coordination responsibilities. Assist with travel arrangements of all attendees and faculty of trainings.
• Assist with PowerPoint presentations for NAGTRI presenters and speakers; ability to format and run presentations for training presenters.
• Input all NAGTRI information for each course into database, including student and faculty information, and evaluation results.
• Coordinate with web designer on placing information on website (including materials).
• Provide telephone coverage and back-up assistance as needed.
• Respond to inquiries by state attorneys and circulate information to Attorney General as needed.
• Apply for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for faculty and participants at all NAGTRI national trainings.
• Other tasks as assigned based on the needs of the Association.

Last day to Withdraw from one course - Nov. 6


Monday, November 6, 2017 is the last day for undergraduate students to withdraw from 1 course up to 4 credits for the current Fall 2017 semester. If you have questions about dropping a course, please contact Dr. Stickle.


Please Note, you will need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Stickle if:
  1. You need to drop a course and you have already dropped a course this semester, you will need to schedule an appointment to discuss requesting an Exception to University Policy for a second W with an advisor.
  2. You are on academic probation or dismissal and would like to drop a course with a W you need to schedule an appointment to get this permission.
  3. You need to drop a single course that is more than 4 credits (e.g. certain language courses or research/internship that is more than 4 credits)
