Department of Homeland Security Paid Summer Internship Program


U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) 2015 HS-STEM Summer Internships

10-week research experiences are offered at: Argonne, Berkeley, Livermore, Los Alamos, Oak Ridge, Pacific Northwest, and Sandia National Laboratories; as well as at Homeland Security Studies and Analysis Institute, Coast Guard Research and Development Center, Customs and Borders Protection Laboratories and Scientific Services, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Naval Research Laboratory, Engineer Research and Development Center, National Security Technologies Remote Sensing Laboratory, Transportation Security Laboratory, and more.

Areas of research: engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological / life sciences, environmental science, emergency and incident management, social sciences, and more.

U.S. citizenship required

Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Spring Semester Internship - DC Pretrial Services Agency


DC Pretrial Services Agency is seeking interns for the Spring 2015 semester.  Intern responsibilities include:
§ Conducting pretrial interviews
§ Tracking and reporting compliance with conditions of release
§ Evaluating defendant eligibility for PSA Supervision Programs
§ Coordinating treatment placements
§ Referring defendants to appropriate social service organizations
§ Conducting individual and group counseling sessions
§ Conducting program orientations

Intern Qualifications: 
§ Candidates must be attending a college or university that is accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education
§ Students must attend a college or university at least part-time
§ Candidates must provide proof that academic credit will be received
§ Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or be able to prove legal residency in the United States of America

Job Duties:
Develops and administers security requirements for classified/proprietary materials, documents, and equipment. Assists with computer security audits, account creation, configurations, and assessments. Studies and implements federal security regulations applicable to company operations. Obtains rulings and customer interpretations in order to comply with government requirements. Prepares manuals outlining regulations. Establishes procedures for handling, storing, and keeping records, and for granting personnel and visitor access to restricted records and materials. The Professional Development Program offers the opportunity to experience several different job assignments before making a commitment to remain in a particular position. Requirements for this Program include an overall GPA of 3.3/4.0 or higher and U.S. citizenship is required.
