Choose from more than 350 undergraduate and graduate courses that meet morning, afternoon, and evening on campus, or anywhere online.

If a current University of Maryland student wishes to take a course at another institution and have that course and its credits transfer back to UMD, that student is required to submit a “Permission to Enroll” (PTE) form. Students must obtain appropriate approval(s) from the college and/or the department. By having the course approved, the form acknowledges:
  1.    The credit is transferable to UMD
  1.    The student is in good academic standing and has permission from UMD to take the course
Please Note: Some institutions, especially Maryland Community Colleges, will require this approved form in order for students to register. Typically, courses are taken during the summer or winter terms.

Monday, Nov 8th, 2021 is the last day for undergraduate students to withdraw from 1 course or up to 4 credits for the current Fall 2021 semester.

Please Note, you will need to schedule an appointment with Dr. Stickle if:

  1. You need to drop a course and you have already dropped a course this semester. 

  2. You are on academic probation or dismissal and would like to drop a course with a W.

  3. You need to drop a single course that is more than 4 credits (e.g. certain language courses or research/internship that is more than 4 credits)

 Student Volunteer Intern Positions:

U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia 

The United States Attorney's Office has several student programs for which recruiting is done each semester. The Fall Program runs from September through December, the Spring Program runs from January through March, and the Summer Program runs from June through August. Our Office offers volunteer and academic credit internships to undergraduates, graduate students and to law students. Work study funds may be available contingent upon the budgetary constraints of both the educational institution and this Office. We accept college undergraduates, graduate students, and second and third year law students, with the permission of their school, to work in the Office assisting our attorneys in case preparation. During the school year, students must be prepared to work from sixteen to twenty hours a week, or more if their schedules permit. In the summer, most students work 40 hours a week.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for these programs must be United States citizens and can apply by submitting a cover letter, resume, and school transcript to our Office on or before the deadlines listed below. A student must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Please note that every student internship is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a security clearance. Under no circumstances will a student be allowed to work in any capacity before his or her security clearance is successfully completed.

ACADEMIC CREDIT
Students may earn academic credit for working at our Office. Information on academic credit programs can be obtained from school placement offices.

APPLICATION DEADLINES:

  • SUMMER PROGRAM: The Office accepts applications for the Summer Program from September 1st to December 31st for college students. The Program begins on the first Monday in June and runs through the second week of August.  The deadline for submitting a completed security application package is February 15th and the Program will begin on the first Monday in June.

No applications will be accepted before or after the time frame announced above.

The Baltimore County Police Department, Forensic Services Section, is looking for five student interns for the Spring 2022 Semester.

The purpose of the internship is to provide students with a real-world learning opportunity which should prepare them to be workforce ready upon graduation.  

Examples of Duties

The selected interns will:

  • Prepare CDs for States Attorneys' Office
  • Log information in and out of databases
  • Research current analytical methods
  • Contribute to on-going projects
  • Inventory reference collections
  • Build skills related to the forensic science work environment.

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, and graduate students actively attending an accredited college or university are eligible.
  • Students must have at least a 2.8 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the undergraduate level, or at least a 3.0 GPA at the graduate level.
  • A college transcript is required as evidence of GPA. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Forensic Science or a related field.
  • Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in graduate level programs related to forensic science

Volunteers and interns serve with diligence, pride, and dedication, and they continue to introduce new ideas, a fresh outlook, and an invigorating spirit to our workforce. Their contributions are highly valued and greatly appreciated by the Police Department and the community it serves. Currently, our active, highly diverse volunteer corps numbers approximately 175. Volunteers are involved in nearly all aspects of the department’s operations from training to communications. They work side-by-side in support of the line officers, command staff, and civilian employees.

Law Enforcement Apprentice Program – L.E.A.P.
  • Minimum age – 16
  • Successfully pass background check.
  • Ability to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per week or 6 months in the program.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or have a valid green card.
  • Interns typically work anytime Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

What special projects may I be involved with?

  • Ability to participate in training operations.
  • Assist police officers with alcohol enforcement efforts.
  • Assist police officers with underage cigarette/alcohol purchases.
  • Assist officers at special community events such as the County Fair and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Volunteer Applicant Requirements

Effective August 30, 2021, all new volunteers and interns will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against the COVID-19 Virus prior to entering into service with Montgomery County Police. Individuals who are unable to be vaccinated should contact OHR@montgomerycountymd.gov to discuss possible accommodations.
