Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) : Employer Networking Sessions Monday, October 5 5:00PM – 6:00PM As an intelligence-driven and threat-focused national security organization with both intelligence and law enforcement responsibilities, the mission of the FBI is to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners. 2. Bound for Graduate School? Strategies to Gain Admission to Highly Competitive Graduate Programs! Monday, October 5 6:00PM – 7:00PM All class levels (freshmen- alumni) are welcome to attend and gain tips on how to excel through the graduate school application process in a variety of fields (i.e. PhD, Master’s, MBA, Law, MD, PharmD, PsyD, MFA, Postdoc). As well as learn about scholarship and fellowship options. 3. Study Abroad 101 Monday, October 5 12:00PM – 12:50PM  Location: CSS 2416 What is study abroad? How does it work at UMD? Where do I even start? Get started with our Study Abroad 101 sessions! This session is designed to give an overview of study abroad at the University of Maryland and answer general questions.  We will cover the basics about academics, finances, locations, and how to plan to go abroad! 4. Study Abroad Gilman Scholarship Application Deadline Tuesday, October 6 (All Day) Are you a Pell Grant Recipient and US citizen? Then the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship (link is external) is a study abroad scholarship opportunity just for you! Fill out the National Scholarship Office's Gilman interest form (link is external) to learn more. 5. Careers in Intelligence/CounterTerrorism Wednesday, October 7 4:30PM – 6:30PM Interested in a career in intelligence or counterterrorism? Take advantage of this opportunity to learn from and network directly with professionals in the field. The first hour is a panel discussion followed by an hour of informal socializing and networking. 6. How to Find an Internship Thursday, October 8 12:00PM – 1:00PM Not sure where to start with your internship search?  Or, do you feel like you are at a standstill and unsure about the next steps in your search?  To help you with your internship search, we will discuss: ·         Specific resources available to research internship opportunities in non-profit, government and corporate sectors ·         Quick tips on making a positive first impression on resumes and during interviews ·         Strategies to connect with UMD alumni working within your intended career field 7. An Afternoon with NIH Thursday, October 8, 2015 3:30pm-5pm Are you interested in working for the federal government? Come hear from a panel of current NIH employees working in public health departments at the NIH. Panelists will share advice from their career paths, as well as pointers for creating your federal resume. NIH representatives will share information about upcoming internship opportunities for spring and summer 2016. This is a great way to network with the NIH prior to meeting them at the SPH Career Expo on October 14th- get your foot in the door today! Students from all majors are welcome to attend. 8. Government Employer Meet Up: Employer Networking Sessions Friday, October 9 12:00PM – 2:00PM Interested in a career in the government?  Come to a relaxed, informal opportunity to meet and greet with 6-10 government agencies interested in hiring University of Maryland students. Each company will give a 3-5 minute overview and then be seated at tables to have conversations with students over light refreshments for the remainder of event.
