The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA Position at the UMD SAFE Center
The University of Maryland Support, Advocacy, Freedom, and Empowerment Center for Human Trafficking Survivors (“SAFE Center”) is recruiting a CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA (Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic AmeriCorps Volunteer In Service To America) to implement the third year of a three-year project to build the SAFE Center’s capacity to provide sustainable economic empowerment opportunities for trafficking survivors, and to develop the SAFE Center’s capacity to recruit, organize, deploy, and retain volunteers.

This position is paid by stipend through CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA. Responsibilities Include:
  • Working with the Director of Economic Empowerment, develop, assess, and revise as necessary client assessment and survey tools, protocols, forms, manuals, and evaluation tools for the economic empowerment program.
  • Organize an in-house economic empowerment workshop.
  • Identify and help apply for funding for the economic empowerment program.
  • Conduct best practice research related to both economic empowerment and volunteer programs, and implement where applicable.
  • Assess the English Language Partner Program and ensure protocols and manuals are in place for transition from AmeriCorps VISTA program to sustainable SAFE Center program.
  • Help research, build and grow employer partnerships and databases, as well as partnerships with vocational training and workforce development programs at the University and in the region.
  • Further develop and implement the volunteer engagement program.
  • Develop and help facilitate on-boarding procedures for volunteers and interns.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking, creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Hard working and well-organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Takes initiative and proposes ideas; goal-driven and results-oriented.
  • Able to receive and implement feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; a positive, cooperative, affirming, and professional demeanor with clients, partner organizations, volunteers/interns, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Enjoys working with people; comfortable initiating phone calls and meetings.
  • Experience managing projects, organizing people, and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Culturally competent with the proven ability to work well with diverse communities. Desire and ability to work together with professionals of other disciplines (law, social work, medical, etc.) as part of a multi-disciplinary organization on behalf of clients. Experience in workforce development and/or volunteer engagement is preferred but not required.
