Position description
The Public Policy & Advocacy (PPA) department is looking for an accomplished student to serve as a Public Policy & Advocacy Intern. This individual will support PPA’s mission to advocate for the most marginalized and vulnerable.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
- Contribute to information gathering, research, and analysis in relation to global policy processes, advocacy and fundraising opportunities.
- Assist in conducting research on priorities and demonstrated interests of key decision-makers, such as Members of Congress, USAID focal points, and US government officials.
- Write background briefs, talking points, fact sheets, policy briefs, and communications materials, including social media content, in furtherance of PPA objectives.
- Assist in preparations and execution of strategic events, including internal and external facing workshops and meetings, related to Save the Children’s public policy and advocacy objectives
- Attend both internal and external meetings and events and assist in note-taking and follow up of action points
- Provide support on fundraising projects and proposals for the department
- Provide administrative support as needed to the Public Policy & Advocacy department (scanning, mailing, copying, etc.)
Qualifications
- Must be an actively enrolled undergraduate student or have graduated within 6 months of start date
- We are looking for someone who has demonstrated interest, experience, and/or academic training in one or more of the following areas:
- Global gender policy
- International development sector, such as health or education
- Humanitarian policy
- Government Relations
- Public policy
- Knowledge and understanding of key issues and current trends in US foreign policy, and international development
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize and report on large amounts of information quickly and accurately
- Experience in organizing and executing events, including logistics and promotion
- Must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and switch gears easily, and able to prioritize to meet deadlines
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, creativity, flexibility, and self-motivation; able to work both independently and part of a team
- Experience in internal and external communications, including targeted social media in a professional setting preferred
- Positive, can-do attitude and mature inter-personal skills
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
