 Paid Spring Youth Advocacy Internship with the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids

 Hours: Part-time (Max 29 hrs/week) consistent schedule

Start and End Date: January 2021 – May 2021
Compensation: $15 per hour
Location: Washington, D.C. only; currently interns are working remotely; Reentry to the Washington, DC. office projected for the Spring 2021

History: The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is a leader in the fight to reduce tobacco use in the United States and around the world. By changing public attitudes and public policies on tobacco, the Campaign works to prevent kids from smoking, help smokers quit and protect everyone from secondhand smoke. A non-profit organization established in 1996, the Campaign works with more than 130 organizational partners, including public health, medical, education, civic, corporate, youth and religious organizations. The Campaign does not accept any government or tobacco industry funding.

Scope of Work

• Support Strategic Partnership team with State and Federal youth engagement efforts, partnership outreach, metrics and member tracking, etc.
• Translate findings from reports and other documents into social media posts, alerts, fact sheets, presentations, letters or case studies for dissemination,
• Assist with general office duties such as copying, scanning, and emailing documents as well as creating and maintaining spreadsheets, proofreading materials and creating PowerPoint presentations, when applicable,
• Participate in department and youth advocacy team meetings,
• Supporting outreach and management of online interactive communities for youth advocates and youth coordinators, and
• Supporting additional Strategic Partnerships and Youth Advocacy related projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or working toward undergraduate or graduate degree.
• Demonstrate attention to detail, creative, responsible, can work independently or as a member of a team, strong writing skills, and an ability to handle multiple tasks with aggressive deadlines.
• Experience with advocacy and working with youth and diverse communities a plus, as well as, an interest in public health or tobacco issues.
• Knowledge of and proficiency with a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
