MCPD Openings

DEPARTMENT OF POLICE
The Montgomery County Police Department will be taking applications for Police Officer Candidate from Thursday, January 12, 2017 12:00 am through Thursday, January 26, 2017 at 11:59 pm.  This will be for an academy scheduled to begin in July of 2017 (Subject to change).  All applicants for this opening must be available on Friday February 10, 2017 OR on Saturday February 11, 2017 for written testing.

            -Click on “Search Jobs”
-Click “Register today” on the right side of the page to create an account.
If you have applied previously, Click “login to AccessMCG Extranet” to login to your account.
            -Once you are logged into an account, click “Search Jobs”
            -Select Public Safety from the drop down and click “Go”
            -Click on the blue Name starting with IRC to the left of Police Officer Candidate
            -Click “Apply Now” in the upper right corner of that job description
 When applying on-line resumes are not required they are optional. When the system opens it will state that resumes for POC (Police Officer Candidate) are optional.
Minimum Qualifications at the time of application
The Following Minimum Qualifications Must Be Met by All Police Officer Applicants
1aPossession of an Associate's Degree or its equivalent
(60 college credits or 90 college quarter hours) at time of application.
OR
1b.      Three (3) years of active duty military service. Applicant must provide official proof of separation from the military in good standing with an honorable discharge prior to being extended a conditional officer of employment;
OR
1c.      3 years of sworn law enforcement experience, with arrest powers, eligible for rehire as defined by MCPD
AND
            2.  Not less than 21 years of age at the time of graduation from the academy.
            3.  United States citizenship.
            4.  Possession of a valid driver's license from any state.
            Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Department of Police and a medical examination is also required.

Attention Seniors: Exciting Future Nonprofit Leadership Fellows Program!

The University of Maryland’s Do Good Institute (DGI) and the School of Public Policy (SPP) are recruiting the first class of Nonprofit Leadership Fellows who will enter SPP in fall 2017 to pursue a Masters of Public Policy (MPP) or MPP-MBA degree specializing in Nonprofit Leadership.

The Nonprofit Leadership Fellows program will create the next generation of nonprofit leaders through a two-year program that offers students an unparalleled benefits package including tuition support, living stipend, health benefits, paid internships with leading nonprofits and NGOs, and a mentoring program that pairs each Fellow with a nonprofit executive.

Study Abroad: Thailand and Cambodia


Internship – Howard County Police Crime Analysis Unit

The Howard County Police Department is now soliciting expressions of interest for unpaid internship opportunities within the crime analysis workgroup. Applications are now being accepted for internship opportunities in the summer and fall semesters of 2017. Our internship program, which was first implemented in 2012, has been extremely successful and has resulted in benefits to both the students and our organization.

Interested students should express their interest by completing and forwarding the following: 

  • a COVER LETTER (explaining your interest in being considered)
  • a completed Volunteer Internship Application

Again, students interested in being considered for the 2017 summer and/or fall semesters should respond to this solicitation. Please advance completed paperwork by one of the following methods:

·         Drop off in person;
·         Mail;
·         Email; or
·         Fax.

The amended deadline for submission of completed paperwork will be Friday, February 10, 2017. Paperwork received after the stated deadline will not be considered.
