Background: 
OPD offers a hands-on experience for current undergraduate, paralegal studies, and graduate students to assist in the client-centered and team-based representation of OPD clients. This unparalleled experience allows interns to be fully incorporated into OPD’s innovative and strategic approach to aggressive litigation and comprehensive advocacy.

The vast majority of our interns work in our district offices assisting our trial attorneys in the representation of adult and juvenile clients in criminal cases. OPD has 12 district offices spread across the State of Maryland. If you are interested in trial work you, want to request placement with one of our district offices (the specific office would depend on your geographical preferences and transportation).

Some of OPD's more specialized division also provide internship opportunities. These smaller divisions offer a unique opportunity to work closely with a smaller group of attorneys in a more highly specialized area of the law. The following statewide divisions host interns (please note the location of these offices in parentheses):
- Post Conviction Defenders (Baltimore City)
- Children in Need of Assistance (Rockville, Upper Marlboro, Baltimore City, Towson)
- Forensics (Baltimore City)
- Mental Health Division (Baltimore County)

Requirements:
Student is pursuing an education in Criminal Justice, Forensic Studies, Paralegal, or a Pre-Law Program. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

Full Time Job: Project Assistant – Employment Law Group, PC (Recent Graduates)


Description
Plaintiff-side employment law firm with a practice concentration in whistleblower law seeks a full-time Project Assistant to provide administrative support in a fast-paced law office.

Duties include:
• Providing administrative support to the legal staff and client intake, including document scanning, filing, and database entry;
• Assisting in theme development to prepare for trials, development of trial presentations, timelines, and other demonstrative exhibits for use in court, and preparation of reference materials for use during hearings;
• Conducting specialized research projects and other potential shorter or longer term work, as assigned;
• Maintaining the office workroom, including but not limited to, receiving faxes, stocking supplies, and assisting employees with projects;
• Maintaining and updating databases used for documentation and processing;
• Coordinating with legal assistants and attorneys regarding upcoming projects; and
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Essential Skill set:
• Ability to use all office equipment proficiently
• Experience with database entry and/or computer science
• 50 WPM +
• Administrative Assistant Experience at least one year-Law firm/Political preferred, but not required

Community Outreach Coordinator Position for May Grad with PG County Council


The Community Outreach Coordinator's primary responsibility is to support the Council Member in efforts to build effective relationships with representatives of the community, civic organizations and the non-profit sector; organize and conduct a variety of community events and activities; develop outreach communication plan; and manage district grant process.

A. Handles the planning and execution of community outreach events.
B. Supports the Council Member in providing relevant information on the grant process to residents, civic organizations and non-profit community.
C.  Handles the Council Member's external communication to inform residents on district initiatives.
D. Maintains community outreach database
E. Attends with Council Member, community meetings or public forums to provide assistance, as needed.
F. Performs a variety of other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Council Member or Chief of Staff, with the following skills:

  • Coordinates and plans special District events including municipal events to distribute informational material on county services available to residents.
  • Creates and distributes outreach materials such as flyers and press releases.
  • Identifies materials for district promotional items.
  • Manages the District's grant process: receives and reviews gran applications; compiles pertinent information for processing the applications.
  • Documents grant application submissions of tracking and database management.
  • Prepares correspondence for signature of the Council Member as part of grant application and determination.
  • Interacts with County Council Grants Coordinator.
  • Prepares Council Member monthly electronic newsletter and email blast, utilizing Constant Contact.
  • Works with Communication Department to manage and update district webpage and press information.
  • Prepares advertisements to support community outreach efforts.
  • Manages and maintains District social media sites to keep residents aware of county programs.
  • Recruits and develops volunteers to assist in carrying out community outreach activities.
  • Tracks volunteers utilizing Constant Contact.
  • Attends all meetings with the Council Member.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions, ability to get along with others, good judgment, tact and diplomacy
  • Prepares oral and written reports on subject matter 
  • Maintains a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Works cooperatively with Council staff and other County personnel.
