Good afternoon, USG Community;
On the morning of Monday, February
9th, USG will have accomplished the first phase of our growth
plans. The new and improved entrance to USG from Shady Grove Road
will be open for business, and the old entrance will be permanently
closed. This will allow us to begin construction of the new parking
garage at the corner of Shady Grove & Darnestown Roads. Traffic using
the new entrance road will be regulated by a new traffic light at the Shady
Grove Road intersection, although it may not initially be in operation.
Improvements on the entranceway will continue through the spring, so as
you use the roadway keep an eye out for beautiful new landscaping, new campus
signage, the new bus stop, and a final coat of new asphalt to complete the
project.
Shuttle-UM riders will be pleased to hear that on February 9th
we’ll be moving the Shuttle-UM bus stop (route #124) location to the new
entranceway and closer to campus buildings (see the aerial photo,
above). Shuttle-UM buses will reverse the direction they drive through
the campus and will pick up and drop off passengers as they enter USG from
Shady Grove Road. Buses will load and unload at the newly constructed bus
stop pad which was added as part of the entrance construction.
