The Civil Division's FOIA, Records, and E-Discovery Office is an innovative team charged with implementing legally and procedurally strategic approaches to FOIA, records, and e-discovery. The FOIA, Records, and E-Discovery Office is part of the Office of the Assistant Attorney General, Civil Division of the Department of Justice. Among its many responsibilities, the office is in charge of managing the Civil Division's records in compliance with the Federal Records Act and developing innovative and efficient approaches to records and information management. The office is taking a proactive approach to achieve the goals outlined by President Obama in the Managing Government Records Directive for federal agencies to evaluate and modernize their records processes.
The Civil Division's FOIA, Records, and E-Discovery Office would like to extend one unpaid, volunteer summer internship opportunity to a student interested in government records management, project management, and/or information technology. The ideal candidate would be a student with strong communication and organizational skills who is interested in learning more about these exciting developments in the Civil Division̢۪s records processes and across the federal government. Potential opportunities may be tailored according to the interests and strengths of the intern, but possibilities may include providing substantive and administrative support to manage projects, conducting research for policy development and analysis, documenting business processes and retention requirements, processing record collections from Civil Division̢۪s Office of the Assistant Attorney General, editing and writing assignments, data entry and management, and other special projects. Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint is desired but not required. Our office may partner with your school if academic credit is available for volunteer internships. Some colleges and universities may offer stipends or grants for unpaid internships; interested students are encouraged to contact their schools for information or requirements. Scheduling for this position is flexible and can be arranged on either a part-time or full-time basis. A minimum commitment of at least 15 hours per week is desired.
