The Howard County Police Department is now soliciting expressions of interest for unpaid internship opportunities within the Crime Analysis Unit. Applications are now being accepted for internship opportunities in the spring and summer semesters of 2020. The Crime Analysis Unit unpaid internship opportunities will only be available to college credit-seeking students. All paperwork will be directed to and handled by the Howard County Police Department, Office of Human Resources.
Unlike other internship opportunities, the Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) program does not rotate students through the various workgroups of the agency; instead, the students are embedded within the CAU and provided very focused interactions with career analysts. The program, which was first implemented in 2012, has been extremely successful and has resulted in benefits to, both, students and our organization.
Interested students should express their interest by completing, fully, and forwarding the following: a COVER LETTER (explaining their interest for being considered); and a completed Volunteer Internship Application (https://www.howardcountymd. gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket= Zi_VFsFoD-8%3d&tabid=1376& portalid=0).
Please direct students to drop off the completed paperwork in person, mail, or fax it to:
Howard County Police Department, Police Personnel
Attn: Crime Analysis Unit
3410 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043
FAX 410‐313‐2312
The deadline for submitting completed paperwork is Friday, September 27, 2019. Paperwork received after the stated deadline will not be considered. Once the paperwork is received and reviewed, a determination will be made as to which candidates will be invited to an in-person internship interview. Please feel free to direct any student having specific questions regarding the scope of responsibilities associated with the internship to contact: Mr. Skip Baylor at Email / dbaylor@howardcountymd.gov or Phone / 410-313-3683. Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to a continued working relationship with your academic body.
