Youth Program Summer Internship with World Learning The World Learning Youth Development Unit has as its mission to bridge cultures and promote citizen diplomacy and understanding across nations through the design and delivery of customized student exchanges that are a few weeks up to one academic year in length. These programs expose participants to cross-cultural understanding, leadership development, and civic responsibility. Interns work closely with program teams on design, implementation, and monitoring of programs for participants from more than 25 countries visiting the United States under grants from the U.S. Department of State's Office of Citizen Exchanges, US embassies, and other funders. The Youth Development Team is looking for up to four qualified candidates to join the team as interns in our Washington, DC office for Summer 2015. Interns will assist with the administration, implementation, and/or monitoring of educational and leadership training programs for high school youth and adult mentors. The internship may include the following responsibilities: • Arrange program logistics both in the US and abroad (air and ground travel/hotels/meeting space); • Conduct research to identify appropriate program components and assist in the preparation of programs; • Develop prospective program calendars and itineraries; • Process financial documents; • Maintain comprehensive program files; • Engage with participants through email and social media platforms; • Accompany and interact with participants during DC program segments; • Contribute to program blogs, including reviewing and editing student submissions; • Assist with the preparation of program materials for participants, along with entering and editing data for database; • Provide backstop support to program teams; • Complete other assigned tasks as needed and requested by team members and intern coordinators. Required Qualifications • Proven written and oral English communication skills, including public speaking experience and strong writing skills; • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications; • Excellent attention to detail; • Superior interpersonal, communication, cross-cultural, organizational, and time-management skills; • Ability to take initiative, be flexible, and work independently and with a team; • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, coordinate activities in multiple locations, and to prioritize competing tasks; • Ability to utilize and engage participants on various social media platforms (Twitter, YouTube, blogs, etc.) • An undergraduate degree or substantial work toward a degree. Desired Qualifications • Previous work and/or interest in the youth sector; • International travel/work experience; • Foreign language skills (Arabic, Kurdish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, etc.) Candidates must submit their cover letter including dates of availability and resume no later than COB May 14, 2015 to youthprograms@worldlearning.org.
