(Fall, Spring, and Summer semester positions available):
The Legal Services Intern will gain hands-on experiences in the field of civil law, as it pertains to Protective Orders, Peace Orders and Emergency Evaluation Petitions. The intern will be responsible for the review of legal services referrals and updating databases, observing court proceedings and taking notes, possibly conducting outreach calls to clients to offer legal services, and will assist with reception and intake responsibilities. Students interested in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: law, paralegal studies, and/ or criminal justice. Legal Services Interns are required to work at least three 8:30am-2pm shifts.
(Spring semester position only): The DVCC Intern position provides a unique opportunity to learn about domestic violence education and prevention. The intern will learn about domestic violence, the agencies throughout the county who provide services and how coordinated community response works. The intern will assist in organizing the spring event, along with other responsibilities for the DVCC. The intern will also assist with reception responsibilities at the FJC. Students interested in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: social work, public health, criminal justice, education, crisis intervention, and/ or family dynamics. DVCC Interns are required to work at least three 8:30am -2:30pm shifts per week. DVCC Interns must also be available for DVCC meetings, and for the Choose Respect Conference. Additional evening hours may be required.
Applicant Requirements and Process
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school to apply. After completing and submitting an online application, the application will be reviewed for interview selection. Applicants selected for an interview will be notified via the email address provided on their submitted application. Those selected to intern at the FJC must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.
Applicants selected to intern at the FJC must commit to the following:
- Spring Semester: January - end of May
- Summer Semester: May - end of August
- Fall Semester: August - end of December
The deadlines to submit your application are the following:
- To apply for a position in the Spring: Last Friday in November
- To apply for a position in the Summer: Last Friday in April
- To apply for a position in the Fall: Last Friday in July
