 Spring Crisis Intervention Team Center of Excellence Internships (Two Positions)

The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services seeks a Crisis Intervention Team Center of Excellence (CITCE) intern for Spring 2022. The incumbent will work alongside the Law Enforcement Coordinator to collaborate with various key stakeholders (e.g., local government, law enforcement, public safety agencies, behavioral health agencies, and crisis service providers), and support the implementation of a crisis intervention model program per policy directives. 

Primary functions of this position will include providing technical support to the CITCE-Collaborative Planning and Implementation Committee via stakeholder engagement, workgroup meetings, research, note-taking, and report writing. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

● Assist with preparation and planning of regular meetings and working groups (20%) 

● Support the research and development of CITCE reports and documents (20%) 

● Investigate existing U.S. Crisis Intervention Team Centers of Excellence to make recommendations that help standardize processes and set measures. Research national goals and report information that supports the creation of uniformed standards for crisis intervention model programs (20%) 

● Review and understand legislative documents (including Senate Bill 305, House bill 1280, and others) (20%) 

● Attend collaborative meetings, take detailed notes with summaries and action item reports (10%) 

● Other tasks as assigned (10%)

The successful candidate will: 

● Be enrolled in a criminal justice, social sciences, or a related field. 

● Possess a demonstrated interest in criminal justice-related subjects including law enforcement, corrections, prosecution, courts, crime prevention, youth and victim services, and mental health. 

● Have a strong desire to engage and learn about the criminal justice system. 

● Possess excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 

● Have experience working with government officials and stakeholders. 

● Be detail-oriented. 

● Have strong organizational skills.

Program Highlights: 

● Program Dates: January 2022-April 2022, up to 30 hours per week 

● This 12-week program provides students interested in criminal justice with rewarding and substantive work assignments that contribute to the mission of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services to improve public safety in Maryland. 

● This program provides an opportunity to network with professionals from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services, public safety partners throughout the State to include but not limited to Behavioral Health Administration, Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, Mental Health Association of Maryland, and others who will support the incumbent’s professional growth and career interests. 

● Learned outcomes or skills learned throughout this program include developing work habits and attitudes necessary for career success in the criminal justice field; receiving informal feedback and mentoring from the Law Enforcement Coordinator; developing communication, interpersonal, and other critical skills necessary for success in the workforce; and building a record of professional work experience in the public sector.
