Fall Internships with the Census Bureau Are you looking for an internship working with some fun criminal justice data? We are the U.S. Census Bureau, Criminal Justice Branch, and we are looking for 1-2 UMD students to Intern with us for the Fall Semester, 2018. You would work with us in Suitland, Maryland, a few days a week (typically T, W, or Th).  Internships are unpaid but should qualify for college credit. There is a metro next door to the building so you can metro (Green line) or drive (free parking pass will be provided). BJS Sponsored Projects National Prisoner Statistics 8 (NPS 8) This project gathers information on the    characteristics of persons under sentence of death and of persons executed as of December 31 including: offenders' sex, race, Hispanic origin, education, marital status, age at time of arrest for the capital offense, legal status at time of the offense, methods of execution, trends, and time between imposition of death sentence and execution. Data pertaining to the movement of prisoners into and out of death sentence as well as change in the jurisdiction legal status are also obtained. Survey on Sexual Victimization (SSV) Originally a congressional mandate under the Prison Rape Elimination act of 2003, SSV is an annual data collection used to obtain information on the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault within state, local and juvenile correctional facilities.  OJJDP Sponsored Projects    Juvenile Frame This is a comprehensive name and address listing of juvenile justice agencies in the United States.  This list serves as a universe or sampling frame for all of our OJJDP work. Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement (CJRP) This is a biennial census that collects data from over 2,800 public and private juvenile facilities. The census collects specific information such as gender, race, most serious offense, admission date, and adjudication status for each juvenile delinquent /status offender in residential placement.  It also collects information on facility type and security levels of each facility. Juvenile Residential Facility Census (JRFC) This is a biennial census which began in 2000.  Its census universe is the same as that for the CJRP, however, it collects more specific information on the programs and services available at the facility.  Along with a one-day count of juveniles, more specific information is collected on facility characteristics including physical health, mental health, educational, and substance abuse services.
