The Civic Engagement and Social Equity (CESE) internship is a minimum 6-month, full-time paid position based in Arlington Virginia. This internship requires an energetic, self-motivated and detail-oriented person who can take on and lead tasks related to day-to-day operations of select projects and initiatives in the CESE Unit. Responsibilities will include organizing and coordinating positioning activities on child labor and trafficking-in-persons, supporting ongoing projects, conducting research on project-related activities, drafting communications materials, and other logistical and programmatic support.
CESE's portfolio of programs includes education, civic and youth engagement, child labor prevention, economic empowerment, and trafficking prevention and mitigation programs implemented throughout Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Essential Responsibilities
Knowledge Management/Positioning Activities
Prepare and maintain a repository of curriculum and tools;
Draft blog posts and other documents for internal and public consumption;
Coordinate external communications with Winrock's partner network, including regular updates, recurrent calls and/or webinars, surveys and other;
Continuously update and maintain CESE contact management database;
Help plan and organize public events;
Track relevant events and disseminate information to CESE team;
Help compile, update, edit and produce project success stories to publicize progress and achievements;
Assist with historical data collection and preparing a database for external use;
Project Management
Assist in the coordination of project start-up across multiple countries, including following up with field staff to track tasks and updating start-up work planning tool;
Assist in quarterly and annual report writing, editing and formatting of project deliverables, manual development, and refining partner scopes of work;
Update and maintain financial trackers;
Schedule remote and in-country trainings for recently-hired field staff;
Update and maintain project-specific collaboration sites;
Coordinate policy approvals with Winrock operation support units;
Review bid documentation for procurements and coordinate approval process;
Assist with processing consultancy and procurement payments;
Update and review payment trackers for subrecipient organizations;
Review monthly financial reports and fund requests submitted by project field teams;
Other duties as assigned.
New Business:
Support proposal development through the preparation of capabilities statements, tailoring CVs, supporting recruitment/staffing processes, and other roles;
Other new business research/operational assistance, as needed and available.
Qualifications and Background:
Education:
Recent BA or MA graduate, or active MA student available to work full time; degree in focus area related to CSE's work such as international relations, education, political science, women's studies, human rights, or international law.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Experience living and/or working in developing countries strongly preferred.
Exceptional writing and other communications skills required.
Strong analytical and research skills essential.
Team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Experience preparing communications materials including brochures, pamphlets, presentations.
Experience writing or contributing to grant applications/proposals preferred.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, ability to think critically and work independently are a must.
Proven commitment to pursuing a career in international development strongly preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) strongly desired.
