Learn, first-hand, how a criminal case proceeds from charging to trial and through sentencing by interning with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office. Interns are in the unique position to accompany prosecutors to court and participate in trial preparation by both collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Interning with St Mary's County SAO office also allows you to explore the criminal justice system beyond our walls to include visiting the local jail, commissioner’s office, police barrack, public defender’s office, clerk’s office and meeting Judges.
Interns must pass a background check, are required to wear court appropriate attire, and report to our District Court office (23110 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, MD). All interested applicants must complete the following materials in order to be considered:
- Application for Employment
- Employment/Volunteer Consent/Release Form
- Unpaid Intern Agreement
- Release and Waiver of Liability
- Employee Profile
- A brief statement about why you want to work with the St. Mary’s County State's Attorney's Office
Students should submit all application materials no later than 4:00 PM on August 21, 2020 to to Buffy Giddens (Buffy.Giddens@stmarysmd.com). They can also be mailed to SAO PO Box 654, Leonardtown, MD.
