CCJS students- Intern for a Day Spring 2016 Host List Now Available!


Intern for a Day connects undergraduate students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day internship/shadowing experiences.  This spring, we have 200+ hosts with 550+ possible shadowing placements in a wide variety of fields and industries!

Criminology & Criminal Justice students may be particularly interested in the following sites:

Intern for a Day Spring 2016 Host List Now Available!


Intern for a Day connects undergraduate students with alumni, parents, employers and community partners for one day internship/shadowing experiences.  This spring, we have 200+ hosts with 550+ possible shadowing placements in a wide variety of fields and industries!


In order to be considered for Intern for a Day, students must attend a short, 30-minute orientation session which covers the application process, workplace etiquette, appropriate dress, professional correspondence and more.  There are six (6) orientation sessions available to attend from February 9-February 11, 2016.  Please click on the date and time of the orientation session that works best with your schedule to RSVP. All orientations take place in the University Career Center & The President's Promise (3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing).

§ First Day of Class – Monday, January 25th (Adjusted to Wednesday, January 27th)
§ Last day of Schedule Adjustment – Friday, February 5th 
§ Last day to drop a class with a W – Monday, April 11th 
§ Last Day of Class  Tuesday, May 10th 
§ If you are on a waitlist, please check in everyday starting Monday, January 25th.

Position Summary Information

General Summary
The intern will assist the WSSC Police Department with various operational and administrative support activities while obtaining a better understanding of police operations.
Essential Functions
• Assist with the accreditation process of CALEA and maintain accreditation file system
• Perform research on accreditation and policy matters
• Compile and revise police general orders
• Conduct inquiries and assist with data entry of investigative reports
• Catalog and move property
• Attend community outreach activities
• Participate in a ride-along
• Help with parking and traffic details
• Participate in training exercises
• Visit courts in surrounding counties
Other Functions
Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment And Physical Demands
• Standard office and field environments
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
• Must be proficient in the use of computers and standard software applications
• Must demonstrate a genuine interest in law enforcement and criminal justice
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
• Must have completed at least 1 year of college
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Microsoft Office experience
Additional Requirements
• Must be willing to sign a liability waiver.
Preferences
Current senior or junior criminal justice major preferred.

Bright Futures 'Unpaid Internship' Scholarship
Spring 2016 Application Now Open
Deadline to apply: Monday, February 8, 2016

The Bright Futures 'Unpaid Internship' Scholarship awards students with need-based scholarships ranging from $250-$1,250 to help offset expenses incurred during unpaid internships.

Eligible Candidates
All registered University of Maryland, College Park undergraduate students returning to campus for the fall 2016 semester, who have an internship for spring 2016, are eligible to apply. Graduating seniors (May 2016 & August 2016) are not eligible. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to those who have not previously received an award.  In order for a student's internship to qualify for funding support, it must satisfy the following criteria:
§ Unpaid on-campus or off-campus internship with a non-profit organization or government agency
§ Offered during the spring and completed by Friday, May 20, 2016
§ Supervised by a professional in the organization 
Submission Deadline: Monday, February 8, 2016 at 5:00 PM
