CCJS @USG and UMD Winter Break Closure

CCJS @USG and UMD Winter Break Closure


CCJS@USG will be closed for Winter Break Monday December 23 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020.  
The University of Maryland will be closed Tuesday, December 24, 2019 through Wednesday, January 1, 2020 for Winter Break.


Both the University of Maryland and  CCJS@USG will reopen Thursday, January 2 for normal business hours.  

Joseph M. Mitchell Scholarship - Accepting Applications


We are currently accepting applications and nominations for the Joseph M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Award. Applications and nominations for the 2020-2021 academic year are due March 22, 2020. All University Graduate and Undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. 

The scholarship award was established in recognition of Joe Mitchell's compassion for the less fortunate members of our society and in honor of his ability to befriend, guide and mentor individuals whose ability to succeed as students at our institution was challenged by some personal or family circumstances. Scholarships will be awarded each fall and spring semester to one or more deserving students. These are one-time awards of up to $2,000 per recipient.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute - Fall 2020 Congressional Intern Program



During CHCI’s paid semester internship, promising Latino undergraduate students experience what it’s like to work in a congressional office, while participating in weekly professional and leadership development and civic engagement through community service.



Gain  Legislative Experience in Washington D.C.
CHCI Congressional Interns learn firsthand how the legislative system works, spending four days each week working on Capitol Hill. Usually, interns are placed with a member of congress who serves a district in their home state performing meaningful work:

  • Responding to constituent inquiries
  • Writing policy briefs
  • Conducting legislative research on issues such as education, health, foreign affairs, defense, science & technology, and many more
  • Attending congressional hearings and policy briefings

Student opportunity to attend Women's Legislative Briefing


The Montgomery County Commission for Women and their many co-sponsoring organizations invite you to the 2020 Women's Legislative Briefing. The purpose of the Briefing is to inform the residents of the state about legislative proposals before local, state, and national legislative bodies that address issues of specific concern to women. Barbara Harrison will be this year's keynote speaker. The conference will open with a plenary session, followed by compelling seminars on upcoming local, state and federal legislation.

Security Operations Center Monitors - Now Hiring Part-Time Positions!
The Security Operations Center (SOC) is a 24/7 unit within the Technology Services Bureau of the University of Maryland, Department of Public Safety. The SOC is tasked with monitoring the extensive security camera system currently consisting of over 500 cameras that are located both on the interior and exterior of campus buildings, as well as at various locations around the City of College Park.
  • Starting Salary for part-time monitors is $11.50 an hour
  • Evening shifts offer shift differential pay of an extra $1.00 an hour
  • Holiday shifts pay an extra $2.00 an hour incentive pay
  • Student and non-student positions available
  • Flexible hours that work around your schedule
  • Minimum requirement of 16 hours per week (allowed to work up to 40 hours per week if desired)

The Police Auxiliary of the University of Maryland Department of Public Safety employs Student Police Aides (SPA's) who are responsible for the delivery of security related services to the University of Maryland campus community. Since 1973, the Police Auxiliary has provided SPA's to members of the community for activities such as socials, major athletic events, and security contracts. The Police Auxiliary contributes toward the overall effectiveness of the University of Maryland Police by utilizing Student Police Aides in place of police officers where practical.
  • Starting Salary of $11.50 an hour and can go as high as $15.00 with promotions
  • Some shifts pay an extra $1.00 an hour
  • Many weekend and night shifts pay an extra $2.00 an hour. Specific shifts may pay an extra $4.00 an hour.

Unchained At Last: Case Manager Position

Unchained At Last, the only organization dedicated to ending forced and child marriage in the United States through direct services and advocacy, seeks a Case Manager to guide women, girls, and others as they escape forced marriages. Apply for this position here.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Director of Client Services, the Case Manager works closely with women, girls, LGBTQ individuals and others who are escaping forced marriages. The Case Manager gets the opportunity to:
  • Conduct intakes;
  • Create and implement escape plans;
  • Advocate for survivors’ needs and connect them with crucial resources;
  • Provide ongoing emotional support; and
  • Coordinate an annual client retreat.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Are endlessly compassionate and patient, but also a bit of a badass;
  • Are ridiculously organized;
  • Have at least a year of professional experience, preferably providing services to trauma survivors;
  • Hold a college degree (two or four years), preferably in social work, psychology or a related field; and
  • Feel passionately about Unchained’s mission.

SALARY/BENEFITS

  • A starting salary of $50,000;
  • A gold-level health insurance plan;
  • A Flexible Spending Account that allows you to pay certain health and commuter costs pre-tax;
  • Clinical supervision; and
  • Monthly art therapy sessions with the Unchained team.

LOCATION

The Consular Fellows Program is a limited non-career appointment of up to five years which directly supports the Department of State’s mission to provide overseas consular services that protect U.S. citizens, ensure U.S. national security, facilitate the entry of legitimate travelers, and foster economic growth at home.
 
Consular Fellows adjudicate visa applications of foreign citizens seeking to come to the United States to visit, study, and work, and assist U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad.  You are on the front lines of preventing fraud, combatting trafficking in persons, and protecting U.S. border security. 
 
Working together with dedicated professionals, this public service opportunity provides valuable professional experience and you will develop and apply a wide range of skills, from managing resources to conducting public outreach.
 
New hire Consular Fellows will be eligible for an incentive equal to 10% of their basic salary and may be eligible for the Student Loan Repayment Program. 
 
We are looking for motivated, culturally-aware, adaptable problem-solvers who have sound judgment and strong customer service skills and can retain their composure during stressful circumstances.
