Summary

The Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction is currently seeking a Student Trainee (Office Automation).
The mission of the Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS) is to conduct research in support of the academic and leader development programs at NDU, and to provide strategic support to the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Unified combatant Commands. INSS includes the following Centers: the Center for Strategic Research (CSR), the Center for the Study of Chinese Military Affairs (CSCMA), the Center for Technology and National Security Policy (CTNSP), the Center for Complex Operations (CCO), the Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction (CSWMD), and the National Defense University Press (NDU Press). 

The mission of the Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction is to prepare the joint warfighter and national security professionals to address the challenges posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMD) through education and professional development, scholarship and direct support, and outreach and collaboration activities across the full spectrum of WMD issues and to become one of the preeminent institutions in the United States for WMD expertise. CSWMD has been designated by the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, as the focal point for WMD education in the Department of Defense's Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) system.
National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world.
This is a Student Internship opportunity under the Pathways Internship Program.  The Internship Program provides management a ready source of student employees and potential future permanent employees. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to their curriculum study or career goals.
You must be a student currently enrolled for the Summer 2016 or Fall 2016 academic terms. You must also live or attend school within the local commuting area of the announcement

Duties

  • This internship is to provide a learning opportunity for a student enrolled in a field of study relating to their career path, to enhance their future goals and improve their knowledge with work experience in a working environment.
  • The primary purpose of this position is to provide a student trainee in the Pathways Internship Program with on-the-job training and guidance. The student trainee uses varied and advanced functions of word processing software to produce a wide range of documents and to perform miscellaneous clerical support.
  • Uses varied and advanced functions of word processing software to create, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, and other textual documents.
  • Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others.
  • Receives and directs telephone calls or visitors while ascertaining the nature of the call or visit and provides complete and clear information that addresses most routine or procedural issues.
