AmeriCorps Job Opportunity - Starting July 8


Image result for americorpsThe Leadership & Community Service-Learning (LCSL) unit, in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union, engages students at the University of Maryland in meaningful community service-learning with the local community through resources, programs, and events. LCSL strives to educate students about the root causes of pressing social issues while making a meaningful and immediate difference in the local community.

This CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will work with the University of Maryland and Nonprofit Prince George’s County (NPGC) to increase the capacity of nonprofits to serve the members of their community. 

The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will have three goals while working on this project.  Their first goal is to increase the number of nonprofits who receive capacity building information and services from NPGC.  The second goal will be to assist in increasing the capacity building services that NPGC currently provides.  The third goal will be to increase the number of agencies in Prince George’s County receiving volunteer resources from the University of Maryland and LCSL.

Specific responsibilities include:



  • Reviewing and analyzing databases of nonprofits in Prince George's County
  • Creating and implementing a media and outreach plan for NPGC in general and Services 24/7
  • Assisting with events both to help with logistics and to engage with nonprofits in attendance to connect them with additional resources
  • Adding organizations to the Services 24/7 virtual resource center
  • Identifying nonprofits that could be potential partners, solidifying relationships with nonprofits, and recruiting student leaders and participants to volunteer through the Terps for Change program

This is a 12-month AmeriCorps VISTA position that begins on July 8, 2019.  The stipend for this CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA position is $791.70 every two weeks.  Upon completing the 12-months of service, the person in this position can choose either an educational award worth $6,095 to pay for further education or $1,800 cash.  This position reports directly to the LCSL Coordinator for Terps for Change.

Minimum qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A valid driver’s license (with a maximum of six points)
  • Good people skills and be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing 
  • Preferred qualifications would include: experience working with project management, marketing, nonprofit agencies, and/or technology (such as website and smart application creation as well as social media)
