Introduction
Are you interested in working in an organization that promotes public safety in the community? The Prince William County Police Department is seeking enthusiastic and energetic candidates for the position of Crime Analyst (Public Safety Analyst).  The successful candidate will serve in an integral role, providing essential support to the men and women of the Prince William County Police Department as a Crime Analyst.  The candidate selected for this position has primary responsibilities that rely heavily on research and analysis of criminal data for problem solving.  These responsibilities are done through review of police reports and other law enforcement data from both the department and outside agencies, the implementation and maintenance of various databases to store this information and maintaining partnerships with department personnel and outside agencies for information sharing to impact criminal activity. 

ABOUT THIS ROLE:  
The Analyst’s key job duties will include research and analysis of law enforcement data; identification and interpretation of criminal activity, patterns, and trends; and forecasting trends to aid in staffing and deployment of Police personnel.  The Analyst will collect, review, evaluate and summarize data from multiple sources, databases and other programs; utilize databases and computer programs to analyst the data; produce crime analysis products to disseminate with the department as well as regionally; and be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  The Analyst will generally work independently under the supervision of the Crime Analyst Supervisor but will also work with other Crime Analysts within the unit.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 4 years of crime analysis, intelligence analysis experience, and/or complex data analysis years of related experience.

PREFERRED SKILLS: 
The ideal candidate will have experience as a crime/intelligence analyst as well as a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics, criminal justice, law enforcement, or related field or an equivalent amount of relevant work experience.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All employees considered for hire by the Police Department and subject to a polygraph examination and to a thorough background investigation.  A valid driver’s license required. 
 
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
The selected candidate will work within Prince William County, Monday – Friday, primarily 8AM-4PM.  The selected candidate will also need to be able to work an on-call rotation within the Crime Analysis Unit.
 
ENTRY SALARY RANGE:  $58,634 - $87,812 Annually
