Internship with SOS Children's Villages International Nonprofit


SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest organization dedicated to the protection of orphaned, abandoned and other vulnerable children. Across 135 countries, and over 570 villages, SOS provides comprehensive intervention, care and empowerment. What makes SOS unique is our individualized approach to the needs of every child in our care supported by a scalable model. We build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures and we share in the development of their communities.
The SOS Children's Villages-USA office based in Washington, DC raises funds, as well as increases awareness and impact of our work for SOS Children's Villages International. 
SOS interns play a vital part in the success of our organization. Internships are unpaid positions within our Washington, D.C. office. All candidates must be available for at least 3 months and a minimum of 20 hours/week.  We are currently seeking applicants for the following areas:
Philanthropy, Corporations & Foundations: The Corporate & Foundation Partnerships, and Philanthropy teams work with high net-worth individuals, corporations and foundations to build awareness of and raise funds for the SOS Children's Villages global mission.
Tasks/Projects
As the intern for this team, you will gain first-hand development experience at an international NGO. Duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following: the qualification and development of grant submissions, preparing donor reports, conducting research and also providing regular administrative support in managing donor information in internal databases.
Skills
Strong writing, research, analytical and organizational skills are required.
Operations: The Operations team plans, tracks and monitors the achievement of organizational goals including support for strategic planning, the Board of Directors and stakeholder engagement.
Tasks/Projects
Team interns work on a wide variety of projects, including but not limited to: responding to donor/sponsor requests and email inquiries, conducting outreach on behalf of the CEO, providing support in developing Board Meeting materials, travel and event logistics, prospect research, and tracking trends in the nonprofit and international development sectors.
Skills
Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills are required. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, solutions-driven and problem solvers.
Digital Direct Marketing: The Digital Direct Marketing team manages the SOS's social media, website, PSA and media campaigns, and digital communications.
Tasks/Projects
Team interns work on a wide variety of projects, including but not limited to: researching content and writing for digital communications, participating in individual and team fundraising projects, creating content and design for organizational social media accounts, providing video and photo editing for digital communications, website, social media, and other campaigns, providing digital support for fundraising campaigns, and providing content and design support for website updates.
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills, Photoshop/InDesign, fundraising experience, experience with social media in a professional setting, video editing, and web development.
Donor Stewardship & Communications: The Donor Stewardship and Communications team handles PR and communications strategies, reaches out to individual donors and sponsors through direct mail and by phone, plans fundraising strategies, and works on multi-departmental projects and campaigns.
Tasks/Projects
Team interns work on a wide variety of projects, including but not limited to: researching content for direct donor communications and appeals, writing for donor communications, completing data-centered projects and any relevant training, helping manage acknowledgments to donors, supporting work on organizational newsletters, providing research to support fundraising, participating in individual and team fundraising projects, and communicating directly with donors by phone and email.
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficient with Excel. Experience with Photoshop/InDesign and fundraising is preferred.
