Position description

The mission of Aldebaran TC is to provide NGOs, businesses, and government agencies with as accurate and current a picture of the dynamic and dangerous security environments where our clients operate.  In order to achieve this, we provide our clients with high volume incident reports and weekly analysis of security developments. 

We are looking for an analyst intern to assist in the development of a database of criminal, civil unrest, terrorism, and political incidents for Nigeria; work on other countries covered by the company will also be required.  This requires a through and timely examination/regular monitoring of key media sources, social media, and closed sources as well as precise categorization of media issues according to Aldebaran’s methodology. 

The intern will also maintain awareness of the security/political situation in countries assigned, with a focus principally on developments in Nigeria. 

The position also will require oversight and editing of data sets, the production of/ editing of analysis pieces along with supporting graphics for the country services.  Other miscellaneous support for regional service managers may be required. 

A stipend will be provided as part of this internship.  There will be potential opportunities for the extension of this internship and for full time employment.  

Qualifications

 Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Journalism, International Studies, Political Science, Security Studies or related fields
  • Ability to work diligently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication skills in remote work setting across multiple time zones
  • Good organizational skills
  • Flexibility to provide occasional after hours/ weekend coverage and support
  • Good analytical writing skills
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicants that have studied/worked/lived in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, French, or Arabic Written Language Comprehension   
  • Familiarity with political and security dynamics in Nigeria specifically, and in Sub-Saharan Africa more generally
