The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. They work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to campaign finance reform, from ending mass incarceration to preserving Constitutional protections in the fight against terrorism. Part think tank, part advocacy group, part cutting edge communications hub, they start with rigorous research, craft innovative policies, and we fight for them – in Congress and the states, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion.

They are currently hiring interns to provide administrative and clerical support in their Washington D.C. office for the Fellows Program

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist with research and general administrative and clerical work for the Brennan Center when in the office by filing, photocopying, answering phones, shipping and mailing, coordinating meetings, drafting routine correspondence, and covering the reception desk.
  • Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work.
  • Provide fact- and cite-checking for research papers, essays, and book proposals
  • Conduct research on fellows' areas of interest, such as race and electoral politics, constitutional issues, and civic education and engagement; assist with event planning and hosting. 

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate student
  • Experience with Windows XP, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
  • Research, communication (oral & written), and analytical skills
  • Adaptable, energetic, and passionate about their issues

Desired skills: 

  • Independent self-starters
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Time management 

  • Hours: Approximately 15-25 hours per week. 
  • Pay: $15.00 per hour. 
  • Duration: Spring semester 2022

  • Duration: May/June - August 2022
