Job Description

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is currently seeking a diligent, organized, and enthusiastic undergraduate student, graduate student or recent graduate with strong communication skills and demonstrated interest in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and/or China to assist NDI's Asia-Pacific team. NDI's Asia-Pacific team works with civil society groups and government bodies across the region to address illiberal influence, disinformation, corruption, government transparency, and democratic development challenges. The anticipated start date for this position is April 2022 for a term appointment lasting three months with the possibility of extension for an additional three months based on performance and/or business need.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Asia-Pacific team in organizing and implementing democracy development programs;
  • Develop new briefings focused on political development in the region in collaboration with other Project Assistants on the Asia-Pacific team;
  • Attend and report on events on affairs related to Hong Kong, Taiwan, or regional topics through memo briefings;
  • Provide administrative support for tasks including, but not limited to, scanning, photocopying, and reviewing documents, such as leases and contracts;
  • Provide logistical support in organizing travel, meeting, and events;
  • Assist with responses to requests for information on topics related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, or regional projects;
  • Assist with updating and maintaining team files and databases; and
  • Conduct special projects as needed.


Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably with coursework in international affairs, political science, Asia studies, or international development, etc.;
  • Experience with event planning and managing logistics strongly desirable;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Experience with Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, G+, etc.) strongly desired;
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work with a diverse multicultural team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Language skills (reading/writing/speaking) in Chinese is a plus, but not required;
  • Experience living and working in the Asia-Pacific region a plus, but not required; and
  • Weekday availability of 40 hours per week for at least 3 months.
