The United Nations Association of the National Capital Area (UNA-NCA) has two internships to be filled immediately: Program Assistant, and Communications and Design Assistant.

These internships will be for 20-32 hours/week, Monday through Thursday to start in the next few weeks until at least early June. Our internships offer a great opportunity to engage in advocacy, programming, communications, and operations in a non-profit office environment. As well, our office is connected with many Untied Nations Agencies and likeminded organizations in DC, offering networking opportunities.

UNA-NCA Communications & Design Assistant

20-32 hours/week

Program assistants will gain experience working in a small, non-profit

environment and exposure to a variety of communications, design,

membership, events, development, and general administrative tasks. This

position is ideal for those interested in non-profit management and will

provide hands-on experience as an integral member of the team.

The Communications & Design Assistant is responsible for providing support

for UNA-NCA through the design of digital content and support of our

communications portfolios (including, but not limited, to social media, weekly

newsletters, and other email communications to our subscribers). The

Communications & Design Assistant will lead the creation of promotional

materials including promotional graphics and key content related to the

organization such as event coverage and footage. UNA-NCA is seeking a

passionate, innovative, creative thinker with strong design aesthetics and

digital skills to engage and expand our outreach. The Creative Design

Assistant will also have the opportunity to attend UNA-NCA events, network

with key leadership, and propose strategic and innovative design projects.


Job Duties

Communications

• Create and edit the weekly e-newsletter.

• Assist with maintaining and updating the UNA-NCA website.


• Help prepare press releases and other promotional materials.

• Help write, edit, and design newsletters, promotional/event materials and

annual reports.

• Write articles about UNA-NCA or partner's events to be posted on website.

Maintain UNA-NCA's social media presence by posting news and

information on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Graphic Design:

• Work directly with the Managing Director of Programs & Membership to

design graphics and videos highlighting key aspects of the organization and

the organizations programming.

• Create flyers and digital banners to promote UNA-NCA.

• Develop event programs.

• Develop and design specific logos for various programs, events, operations.

• Collaborate with UNA-NCA staff as needed in creation of digital and print

graphic design including digital assets for websites, print materials, and

more.

Database/Membership Management

• Assist with developing membership recruitment and retention

communications.

• Help contact new and current members to inform them about upcoming

event and volunteer opportunities.


Events/Outreach

• Help organize events, meetings and fundraisers, including securing

speakers, locating venues, and managing registration.

• Assist volunteers and other organizations with event logistics.

• Assist with event publicity and outreach.

• Represent association at UNA-NCA and partner organization events.

Minimum Required Skills and Experience 

Detail-oriented and well-organized 

1+ years’ experience in an office setting, handling day-to-day administrative  tasks. 

Strong written and oral communication skills. 

Customer service skills, especially via phone and email. 

Event planning experience. 

Strong research and writing skills and experience. 

Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team with minimal  supervision while maintaining a “can-do” attitude. 

Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment, where handling  multiple projects at once is a necessity 

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, and Google Calendar Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or Premiere Database experience preferred 

**This position is unpaid. 

This is a 3-month remote position that will require 20-32 hours per week  with the possibility of extension. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling  basis.
