Graduation Spring 2014 Informaton

Hello Graduating Seniors!
File:Graduation Thinker LuMaxArt.jpg
Hopefully you’ve had a relaxing break and are back in the swing of things as we close out the Spring 2014 semester.  If you plan on participating in the 2014 CCJS Commencement Ceremony, please read the important announcements below, and forward this information to any and all interested parties.

Time/Location
The CCJS Departmental commencement ceremony will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 2:00PM in the Cole Student Activities Building.  The ceremony will last approximately 90 minutes.  All students participating in the commencement ceremony must arrive by 1:00PM.  This should give students enough time to travel from the Comcast Center to Cole if they are planning on attending the campus-wide commencement ceremony the same day.  Additional information about the location of the student meeting room will be provided as the date approaches.

Tickets
No tickets are required for the CCJS departmental ceremony.  You are welcome to invite as many guests as you would like to the individual ceremony.

The campus-wide university ceremony will be held the same day at 10:00AM in the Comcast Center.  Tickets are required for guests at this ceremony.  Information about the campus-wide ceremony can be found at www.commencement.umd.edu.

Parking
Free parking for you and your guests will be available in any numbered lot or parking garage on campus.  Recommended parking closest to Cole is available in Lots 1, Z, and the Union Lane Parking Garage.  There are handicapped parking spots available in these lots and directly in front of Cole, but spaces are limited.

For guests with a state issued handicapped placard or those guests who require a wheel chair accessible entrance will be able to park in in a designated parking area. If this applies to anyone in your family please email crimevents@umd.edu by May 1, 2014 to be added to the parking list. Please note this in the subject line of your e-mail.

Accessibility
Disabled guests and/or families with baby strollers needing to avoid stairs should enter Cole through the David C. Driskell Center (located to the left of the main entrance) or through the West Entrance (adjacent to the tennis courts).  Wheelchair accessible seating is available along the upper concourse of Cole.  Guests should see an Usher (in a yellow jacket) or a commencement volunteer (wearing name tags) when you arrive for assistance.  If additional accommodations are needed, such as sign-language interpreter, please send an e-mail to crimevents@umd.edu as soon as possible.

Cap, Gowns, and Announcements
In order to participate in the commencement ceremonies, students must purchase academic regalia at the University Book Center.  Please note that the undergraduate CCJS majors earn a Bachelor of Arts, not science.  The University Book Center is the official supplier of commencement regalia for the university, with Oak Hall as the official provider. Caps, gowns, hoods, tassels, invitations, diploma frames and other commemorative accessories are available in the center.

Additional and up to date information for both the CCJS and University commencements can be found at  http://www.commencement.umd.edu/.
